Think and Do
“It’s the thought that counts!”
Really? Is it really the thought that counts?
I told my wife the other day that I thought about sending her flowers on the first day of school this year to commemorate her new job. I didn’t send her flowers. Guess what, that thought didn’t count at all!
My kids are each in seperate Veterans Day programs at their respective schools this week. I wonder how they would feel if I just think about going? I don’t think that thought would count either.
I want to please God, so I’ll just think about doing the right thing, but then do whatever I want anyway. That just doesn’t seem to cut it for real faith. (Romans 14:10-12…hey, it’s gonna happen!)
What kind of game are we playing in our minds when we claim that it’s the thought that counts! I think that expression was born by people like me who have had to learn (and continue to learn) how to be more responsible, because it just didn’t come naturally.
Let’s be people who think and do.
Let’s be people who do love, who do faith, who do life!

Very true!! However, i need to be better on the THINK part. Sometimes I DO and think later. I don’t advise this at all. lol I am getting better. Good news, God’s not finished with me yet. I am a working progress. Love reading your thoughts Mr. Langdon
Consider this: Jesus said, “‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life” (Matt. 25:46). We sing, “Service to others is service to you…,” and rightly so. But Jesus would tell us, once prompted by the Spirit to express His love to another, it then becomes a matter of obedience-righteousness or unrighteousness. According to this, more hangs in the balance than a missed opportunity when the “do” of our faith is ignored.
When are we successful in faith? Is it not when we finally become useful to God for the fulfillment of His purposes?
I don’t know always how to discern when God is prompting. We know He will always prompt in accord with His word. We know the “do” will always resonate HIs character. And we know it will produce blessing as He wills and defines. Our job is simply to listen, to try in love, and to look to glorify His Name. So “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
You brought me to blessed meditation this morning brother! Thank you for sharing!
