Thinking Out Loud

“Release the Grudge!”

“Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.” Leviticus 19:18

Grudges are like festering boils, constantly irritating a person’s heart, and therefore usually a relationship between two people as well. A grudge at its core is strictly and plainly a lack of forgiveness and a shameful lack of kingdom propriety to let go of, and to move on from, a wrong done by another.

Especially between two of God’s people, a grudge stops brotherly love cold in its tracks. Furthermore, unbeknownst to many, holding a grudge limits the unmerited forgiveness of our faithful and just Father.

“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

Undoubtedly, there is no room for grudges in the kingdom of God; however, there is ample room for forgiveness.

When you release someone from their wrong doing, when in your heart you forgive them and move on from the hurt and pain, when you liberally show them grace and mercy, enormous weight is then irrevocably lifted from your shoulders. At long last your heart is able to rest. You can rest. And a relationship is reborn pulling two closer than before.
